OUTSTANDING rating for Wigton Group Medical Practice from Care Quality Commission
Following a visit from health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on November 4th 2014, Wigton Group Medical Practice has been awarded an outstanding rating. Visits by the CQC to general practices have only been recently introduced. Between October 1st 2014 and 31st March 2016, the CQC will visit and assess all general practices in England. After the visit all practices will receive a rating similar to those awarded to schools following an Ofsted inspection.
The practice is one of the first ten in England to receive an outstanding rating and the first in Cumbria.
Senior partner Dr John Honeyman who has worked in Wigton for over thirty years commented: “The GPs and practice staff were absolutely delighted to receive this news following the visit by the CQC. It is particularly rewarding to be recognised for high quality care at a time when general practice is often criticised by politicians and the media. Such negative press can be really quite demoralising.
The foundations of the practice were put in place many years ago by our predecessors. Their vision and drive in establishing the practice in the early 1970s were the foundations for the high quality care that we provide today.
We have a loyal, hard working and committed team who should rightly feel very proud of this accolade. We also have excellent community services in the Solway area. Working together with colleagues in the community means that our patients with both physical and mental health problems can be cared for and supported in their own home.”
Lin Baillie who has been the practice manager since 2001 commented:
"We are all thrilled to be given an outstanding rating. Our team works really
hard to provide a high standard of care for patients and this award recognises
the efforts of the whole team, including our community and voluntary sector
colleagues. Congratulations must also go to our patients who are consistently
supportive and appreciative of the service they receive."
